Love-Lies-Bleeding 'ROSARY'
Amaranthus caudatus
Amaranthus caudatus 'ROSARY' , also known as love-lies-bleeding, is a striking, annual or biennial plant with long, tassel-like spikes of small, red flowers that bloom from summer to frost:
Appearance
This plant has long, slender tassels of small, petal-less, red to gold drooping flowers. The flowers bloom in narrow, drooping, tassel-like panicles that typically hang straight down to 12” (infrequently to 24”) long.
Size
This plant can grow up to 3-8 ft. tall (90-240 cm) and 1-3 ft. wide (30-90 cm).
Growing conditions
This plant performs best in full sun, in fertile, humus-rich, moist, well-drained soils. It can tolerate poor soil, but then requires watering freely during dry periods in summer.
Uses
This plant is great for bouquets or woven into floral arrangements. The flowers retain good color when dried for arrangements. Birds love the seedheads.
Sowing
For best results, seeds are sown directly into the ground where required in the spring.
Other names
This plant is also known as tassel flower
