Orach ‘Ruby Gold’ 
Atriplex hortensis

 

A stunner for bouquets and nutritious eating! Leaves are gold with magenta stems and ruby blushes. Orach is such a versatile cut being harvestable at virtually all stages from first-cut for foliage, then later for its airy flowering spires or textural seedheads. Pinching is highly recommended. Harvest the young leafy stems for an excellent spring bouquet addition.Wonderful in arrangements, fresh or dried.

 

Edible young leaves, in salad or steamed.Days to maturity : 28-40 days. ( French Spinach) Orach contains significant levels of vitamin C, vitamin K, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, iron, carotenes, protein, anthocyanins, zinc, selenium, tryptophan, and dietary fibre.

How to grow: Direct seed (recommended) - After last frost. Transplant - Sow 4-6 weeks before last frost.In mild climates -sow in fall, cold tolerant

Pick leaves when plants reach 1' tall, or more. The plants will continue to produce young, edible leaves.

Cut Flower: Harvest fresh stems and dip them for 7-10 seconds in boiling water for longer vase life

To dry: when seed pods have matured. Hang to dry.

 

Vase Life: Very long vase life, will last for 10-14 days
