How to Grow:
PRE- GERMINATION:
Best way to activate the bulb is to soak them in slowly running water. This pre-germination stage should take place as follows:
Soak or shower the bulbs in water for a a minimum of 4 hours. To maintain levels of oxygen, slow running water is recommended or change water during process. Water temperature should not be warmer than 55F. After this initial soak, soak for an additional 2 minutes in a preventative fungicide.
Once soak is completed the bulbs should be stored in perforated plastic bags or in vermiculite, peat or coco. Bulbs need to remain moist, but not wet.
Store the bulbs for 2 weeks in a 55F and cold/humid room. Followed by 1 week at 42F before planting. Avoid that the bulbs from drying out, KEEP MOIST, NOT WET.
GREENHOUSE SET UP
Ranunculus and Anemone can be grown in greenhouses, tunnels, under shade and outside. This mainly depending the climate and season.
Light intensity and good airflow is very important; >2500 foot candles light intensity. Additional shade is recommended during the first 4 weeks after planting to keep soil cool till foliage creates it’s own canopy.
Plant bulbs in raised beds in a well drained soil. For pot or box cultivation; use a very well drained, sterilized low soluble salt, pH 6 to 6.5 growing medium.
Temperature: 40-50F night, 60F day is ideal (ranunculus can handle light frost or warmer days as long as root system remains at 40-50F).
Please provide plenty of ventilation to control temperature and humidity.
PLANTING
After the soak and recommended pre-rooting period, bulbs can be planted directly in the ground or in cells and transplanted later. Plant Ranunculus with it’s ‘fingers’ down, Anemone need to be planted with it’s point down facing.
Spacing of size 3-4cm bulbs is about 6-8” apart, larger sizes should be planted 8-10” apart in two rows.
Plant about 1” deep in well drained soil (raised beds).
Fertilize weekly 200ppm 15-16- 17 or slow release 14-14-14 with additional calcium, ammonium and potassium nitrate. Keep foliage dry, drip irrigation only.
When grow under low light circumstances (northern states / Canada) a B-9 PGR spray is advised at 2500ppm rate.
GROWING AND PRE-HARVEST
About 4 days after planting and preventative fungicide drench is recommended. Repeat this treatment about 2 weeks later. Fertilize weekly with 200ppm 15-16-17. Keep soil cool, moist but not wet and area well ventilated.
Harvest flowers once flowers have opened 2 or 3 times. Harvest early in the morning when flowers are still closed. Store flowers cool in little water.
