Tomato CANESTRINO DI  LUCA

Solanum lycopersicum

An old heirloom tomato that has been grown for over 100 years in the Province of Lucca in the Tuscany region in Italy. The plant produces plenty of large, pear/sack-shaped, red, slightly ribbed on the shoulder's tomatoes.

Meaty and firm flesh, small, sometimes empty seed cavities, ideal for drying or stuffing. Rich and bold flavors with good sweetness. Very productive, indeterminate, regular leaf plants, vigorous, and strong with good disease resistance. Midseason, about 80 days to maturity.

Average fruit weight of 100 to even +300 grams.
Firm flesh with little gel and seeds. Ideal for sauces, coulis and for drying.
Very nice old-fashioned sweet tomato flavor.

How to grow:

Start seeds 6-8 weeks before the last frost and transplant into garden well after the danger of frost. We recommend you prune the suckers that form in the crotches of the branches by the main stem. Water tomatoes at the soil level, keeping the leaves dry. Stake tomatoes so that their leaves and branches are kept off the ground, for good airflow between plants, and for easier harvest.
