Cleome '  White  Queen '

Cleome hassleriana

Adding vertical interest and delicate airiness to the perennial border, Cleome hassleriana 'White Queen' is a fast-growing annual plant with dramatic huge, loose balls, 5-6 in. across (12-15 cm) of sweetly fragrant, pure white flowers with fascinating long stamens that protrude out, giving them a spider-like look.

A favorite of nectar feeders, White Queen Cleome is a popular choice for gardeners looking to attract our winged friends. Once established, Cleome tends to thrive under most conditions, but seeds can be slow to germinate. We recommend cold stratification prior to planting for best results.

Grow Cleome: The Queen series cleomes will germinate at higher rates if the seed is chilled. Spread seed out evenly on a moist paper towel, fold and put inside a zip-lock bag. Place bag in the refrigerator for 2 weeks. Remove seeds and immediately sow into prepared seed beds. High daytime temperatures followed by cooler night time temperatures is extremely beneficial. When seed is sown outdoors temperature swings will occur naturally. Indoors, using a heating pad during the day, and turning the pad off at night is highly effective.
